Known limitations

This page lists the known limitations of Adaptation Studio, grouped by area.

Uploads and file sizes

Maximum file size

A single file can be at most 1 GB, across all asset types, including PSDs used in templates.

Upload rate

The platform accepts at most 500 asset uploads in any 60-minute window. Further uploads are blocked until the window passes.

Naming and special characters

Characters in names

Asset, parameter, and label names support letters (A–Z) and numbers (0–9). Special characters can cause a failed or blank result when an adaptation is produced.

Parameter names of only special characters

A parameter name must include letters. A name made only of special characters cannot be edited or deleted, and its value resolves as empty.

Working Files folder names

A Working Files folder name can be 1 to 60 characters. A longer name fails without an error message.

Parameters and values

The value 0

In an open-text parameter, a value of 0 is ignored and treated as no value; enum parameters are not affected. In an After Effects template, setting a default of 0 in the project produces the intended output for the empty case.

Text backgrounds

Padding

Text backgrounds have no padding setting, so text sits flush against the background. A non-breaking space adds spacing where a normal space would be trimmed.

Vertical centring

Text-background centring uses the font’s line height rather than the pixel height, so vertical centring can appear off.

Fonts

Glyph coverage

The renderer does not substitute a fallback font for missing characters, so a font must contain a glyph for every character used. Work with fonts covers checking a font’s glyph coverage.

Font file format

TrueType Collection (.ttc) files are not supported; use a single-font file.

After Effects

Applies to templates built in the Extension for After Effects.

Image sequences

Image sequences are not supported; a sequence must be rendered to a supported video file before use.

Project format

An .aepx (XML) project is not supported; the .aep format is required.

3D renderer

The Cinema 4D renderer is not supported; Classic 3D is supported.

Right-to-left scaling

Right-to-left text does not support the extension’s built-in layer scaling.

Template complexity

Performance drops as a template grows; the guideline is around 60 dynamic settings per template, counting parameters, layers, scenes, and outputs combined. Conditional outputs have the largest effect.

Automatic previews

An After Effects template generates a limited number of previews automatically; generating more previews is an admin task. Template Builder previews are real-time and are not subject to this.

Images in the editor

Large images in Chromium browsers

In Chromium-based browsers, a very large image cannot be moved or resized in the editor. This is an upstream browser limitation.

Output and downloads

Batch download ZIP

A batch download ZIP can fail to open when the generated filenames exceed about 260 characters. A shorter Download naming scheme keeps filenames within the limit.

Maximum asset dimensions

A specific output size can fail to render when an asset exceeds the maximum dimensions, observed at about 2260x2160 for video. Improve output quality covers resizing an asset that’s too large.

Video resolution

Footage up to 4K is supported; 8K is not.

MP4 bitrate

MP4 output cannot guarantee a minimum bitrate or file size; ProRes can.

Templates and deletion

Deleting an unpublished template

A draft or test template that has never been published is deleted permanently and cannot be recovered. A template that has been published can be recovered after deletion.
